Automate your Bushfire Protection System
The Platypus Controller measures ambient air temperature to automatically activate compatible equipment that supplies water to the sprinkler system. The temperature that activates the system is set by the user up to a maximum of 60°C
When the ambient air temperature rises above the set point, the system becomes active. The system will run for an amount of time which is set by the user up to a maximum of 60 minutes.
After the run time has expired, the system pauses for an amount of time, also set by the user, up to a maximum of 60 minutes. The ambient air temperature is measured again, if it is still above the set point the controller will run the system again.
This cycle is repeated until the ambient air temperature falls 5°C below the set point. During these cycles the controller will send SMS information* to the stored numbers advising the status of the system.
The EVAC Button feature allows the user to turn the system on to run for cycle times up to 1 hour when leaving the property, after the set time has expired the controller will go back into Auto Mode.

What is a sprinkler system controller and how does the Platypus one work?
The Platypus Controller adds automation to existing and new bushfire sprinkler systems, its turns equipment on based on ambient air temp, it also allows for operating via SMS or an App.
Does the Platypus automatic sprinkler controller work without power from the mains?
Yes, in the case of a system having a diesel engine the controller runs off the engine battery when mains power is lost, where this is not the case a dedicated back up power source can be installed.
Can the Platypus Sprinkler system controller send alerts to my phone during a fire?
Yes as long as the mobile network is operational, the Platypus Controller does not rely on the mobile network.
What happens if I need to leave my property before a fire arrives?
That’s fine, there is an EVAC Button located on the controller itself which operates the system for a set number of cycles after which it goes back to Auto Ready measuring the ambient air temp.
Is the Platypus automatic sprinkler controller compatible with both diesel and electric pumps?
Yes, diesel pumps need to have a key start/key stop ignition to allow for auto operation, the Platypus Controller can also start electric driven pumps via the contactor or VFD.

Platypus Controller SIM Cards
We have partnered with M2M One to supply Telstra or Optus SIM Cards that can be installed & tested in the Platypus Controller prior to shipping.
What does it cost:
- For 1 user $25 per month for 100 Text Messages.
- For 2 user’s $40 per month for 180 Text Messages.
- For 3 user’s $60 per month for 270 Text Messages.
- For 4 user’s $80 per month for 360 Text Messages.
- For 5 user’s $100 per month for 450 Text Messages.
An outgoing message from the controller is counted as one (1) Text message for each of the mobile numbers it’s sent too – for example Status message from controller is sent to Owner 0418 xxxxxx and User1 0412 xxxxxx = 2 text messages.
SMS Quantity Limit
Any user who goes over their monthly plan SMS quantity will be charged a small additional fee. The current cost is approx $10 for 50 additional SMS. If you consistently find you are going over your limit you can upgrade to a higher monthly plan.
